Cycle World Online checks on the 'Super Singles", as does Speed!

Ben Bostrom chats to Roland Sands for "Speed" on the project. Cycle World's Mark Cernicke witnessed the first test at Willow Springs in May and got to ride the 450 Yamaha at Laguna. Yamaha actually had the bike at their dealer show in Orlando thre days before Laguna where it was airfreighted to Laguna in time to do a track run.

This is such a good idea... now that the cat is out of the bag if you don't do it someone else will!

The big one is expensive too, better two stroke twin (as banshee)!
Nothing devil's electronics, nothing brake engine, nothing special essence, ... only pure amusement without jap business.
Fuck four stroke!

I need to jump on one of those. I heard that 15 year old girl rode the crap outta the Kawai at Laguna, she out lapped Mr. Sands himself!

This is a series the kids will love

This may be just the thing to get me racing. I like the idea of super tight rules and low cost. More information is an absolute must. Kits would be good as well as being able to piece one together slowly. Bringing the parts, kits, and specs out before the AMA okays it would be great. I'm in weather it's a racing class or just a blast! AMA should have no problem with this.

I saw these concept bikes and thought hey this is the perfect way to get back into racing. It won't break the bank and it is all about the rider. With wife and kids this would be just perfect.

Super job guys!

I WANT ONE NOW...Please:)

I would like to build my own, with spoke wheels and such, but it would be nice to have kit parts available. ie: rear shock, etc.

Looks like a blast...need street legal version for my kids to learn on. The learning curve will be accelerated due to their familiarity with the dirt versions! Cheap fun, easy maintenance, great parts availability, light weight…so far no negatives! Conversion kit for my WR426? I will be bored soon as snow starts to fly need winter project!

GREAT IDEA! This is exactly what the sport needs. Need to get the word out more. Perfect starting point for younger or new track riders.

It seems to be a fact that most
forward thinkers want a 2-Stroke
option in this wanna-be class.
Why are so many 4-Stroke, mindless
sheeps so afraid of the 2-Strokes?

I dont believe there is a fear of 2-strokes unless Gavin puts a post on here saying so. I think you guys are jumping the start right now. This new series had to start somewhere. Im sure he felt starting where he is, was best, in his eyes. Its clear that he thinks with an open mind. And remember, this series will start next year with WERA, That means multiple racing events on the same weekend. Lots of knowledge and data can be gathered and I am sure adjustments will be made to the rules when this series is added to the AMA schedule in 2009.

I am putting a full court press on getting a Hyosung 450 into this class. It's a great engine that will be good against the rest. It will be fun to see Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda,Yamaha, up against Hyosing, BMW, Husaberg, KTM, et al
