All AMA class Series look the same, sound the same and have no definition, you can't even see their #'s. How about Brand ID and posted contingency based on specs and looks? A pack of 450's, red, green, yellow and blue, no eletronics chasing the dream of the fastest talent, not who has the most money and the fasest motor. Just a thought... can't buy a podium here!
Let's here from you please...

I think this is what everyone is looking for and didn't know, until these guy's figured it out, it's so obvious now... well done! I like the idea of bikes you can identify with, numbers you can see and competition of rider ability, not who has the biggest enginbe budget.
Don't spoil it, keep it as outlined, how about it AMA, jump on this idea next year, not two years from now. Me? I am an injured MXer, never road raced, but the lightbulb just went on. I can even race SM and RR now. Let's roll AMA!!
I think this a great idea and a step in the right direction. The AMA needs to look into this possibility of road racing seriously. The popularity of the sport is inevitable Moto GP is now looking into making two stops in the U.S. and World Superbike is not far behind. I don’t know what we as racers, enthusiast and consumers need to do to help move this along, signatures, petitions, something. Or maybe Gavin Trippe and company need to start their own racing association. Just a thought.
Looks great. How about lumping this into a series. Instead of just a quick 30 minute Supermoard National Race...have a Combination Series. Do a 450 Off-road Race (short track like Arena Cross), a Motard Race and use these for a Road Race. Like an Ironman for Motorcycle Racing. All in all a good concept but can the idea of "Fair Play" be enforced. I race the Motard 450 Class and trust me they're not 450s in the class.
I am 100% for this. A standard for a race class such as this would be a god send for some one like me that has a small budget and a big desire. Now if we only had a track here on Maui I would truly be in Heaven.
Wow, this concept is PERFECT! I like the idea of a rider having a fleet of 450 powered bikes.
Of course, the next step is to get the AMA to revive the old "Grand National" idea and have a series including Singles Dirt Track, Road Racing, and Motard results all with the same motor.

What's going on at Laguna on Sep.15th?? Are you guys doing road tests for the press?
I've been racing for over 30 years, and have always wanted a spec bike that could compete with anybody that didn't require Erv Kanemoto or Kevin Cameron to tune and my daddy's construction company / real estate / etc... money to pay for. I started racing on a Ducati 250 single and never had more fun. The younger guys and gals that start today on 600cc fours have no idea of what they are missing. Very few can ride them anywhere near their bike's capablility; whereas a four stroke single can be ridden much closer to the edge and be more forgiving. Heck, alot of them might even learn what smooth means.
Keep the rules close, get WERA to sign on as well as the AMA, and let's start racing next year. Sign me up for a kit or I'll build one myself! Hey, Ducati used to make a 450 single. Maybe we can get them to lop off a cylinder on one of their MotoGP bikes... Detuned of course:)
I think this fills a big gap in the motorcycling world. I for one would never buy a 600/1000 from any of the big manufacturers simply because they're everywhere. I think America has always been about "bigger is better" and some of the coolest bikes haven't been imported here because of that... RVF400's the TZR's and NSR's... etc. This has exclusivity and isn't cookie cutter at all. Plus, with the surge of scooter sales and gas prices increasing, a street version would be interesting for those not wanting the "scooter thing."
Great work! Sign me up!
Sign me up! How about letting it run in a spec class with WERA and AMA and also letting it run in the USGPRU 250 class.
What are you waiting for??? Do it now as there's still time for 2008!
KTM? we want orange!!!!!
PS.... you keep saying "It will be a class where father aand son can build a true road racer in the garage..." Well, if you want to open up the class you might wanna include "mother daughter" or "anyone". Cuz there are some fast muthas out there.
:+)
But seriously... Nice small bikes that handle well... even more attractive to women racers.
I think it's a great idea, so long as the rules are solid and well enforced. The death of most of these classes seems to be when the sanctioning bodies start deciding how the class is to be run. Some people can't afford to modify a bike each season to comply to a new set of rules.
YES, YES, YES, YES
Sign me up.
But make sure that the rules are well written and enforced.
Keep it as even as possible.
Sign me up. I am looking for a 450 frame right now. Is there a reason that you are limited to a 2006 or newer 450? This is exactly what I have been looking for.
I am just mad they never talk about a senior racing class for old men like me who love to race. This would be the perfect class for us men over 50 who still love to go fast!
I am very interested in this project, but cannot get a reply from Roland Sands or Performance Machine to any of the numerous e-mails & telephone messages I have sent. If this is to be a viable idea then somebody should be picking up enquiries surely?
This is great. Lets get the word out. It would appear this can be done relatively quickly and cost effectively for new and/or younger riders. I can't wait to see this take form.
I want to run a husky 450. lets not leave the euro mfgs out of this there is too much bias as far as rule making from honda as it is. keep the F&*king AMA out of the rules and officiating and it will be fine. make a spec mufler but not a spec exhaust. reason being that I'n sure the euro bikes will get the short end of the stick when it comes to parts and pieces if you have to have a RSD kit or something.
I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about this class starting up. I've been wanting to race and haven't been able to swing it financially. I'm super pumped.
I do have a couple of suggestions though:
I like that fact that it is a spec class. It keeps the costs down, keeps the racing exciting. I don't like the idea of only having factory colors though. I think spec number plates should be used so the bikes are easily distinguishable is a good idea though. As excited as I was to build and ride one of these I also dabble in graphic design so I was looking forward to being able to design my own graphics.
Also, this is being presented as an affordale race class. 2000 bucks for wheels is not affordable. It would be nice if the spoked supermoto wheels were competitive.
Hopefully this was helpful - Clayton
Hook me up!!!!!!
Now all I need is the money, time, and skill. Sucks not having a place to learn these skills. Nearest track to me is 3hrs away. If this gets as big as my bones tell me maybe an organization can help little NOWHERE towns build tracks thus increasing exposure and involvement could be set up. IF so come to Iowa, NW Iowa to be exact, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
I am so ready for this class - having roadraced a WR450, this is right up my (track) street.
Lets go!!
Local motocross tracks are stuffed every weekend with 100 plus riders. The stock motocross bike is affordable, reliable, available, repairable, raceable. Taking this hardware and making a road racer is awesome. If you want to see more racers at the track the bikes must be affordable and competitive. Then you may see more than a hand full of riders at the roar race track.
I tell you this is a great future
if the class allows 250cc 2strokes
to compete in the same arena. Why are you soooooo afraid to let a far superior power plant of basically half the displacement
to compete in this class ---you
brain dead Natzi's----
4-Strokes are for a-holes!
God Bless you!
fantastic idea, I am in, just keep the pros out of it and make sure the class is for the average joe!
No doubt, Lightweight is the right weight! This is the breath of fresh air that has long been needed in the Roadracing World!
From a research standpoint, its a great idea to start this series in the WERA organization, before bringing it into the AMA. With WERA, you have multiple racing weekends on the same weekend throught the country. This will give Gavin and his team, and the AMA, lots of knowledge over a short period of time. What better way to test this series and gather lots of data, before bringing it to the AMA.
The big key,in my opinion, to the success of this new 450 series, is that WERA and the AMA, when they bring it on their schedule, MUST enforce the rules of this class! The other side of that equation is that we, the riders, MUST obey and build according to those rules!
On the club level, at some point, we all have had thoughts of other riders, breaking the rules/cheating when it comes to modifying their bikes. That assumption happens on every racing weekend by somebody, whether said among friends or in the form of a protest.
I think rules are being bent or crossed, and this is just my opinion and what i have observed in my years of roadracing, because the racers who do bend rules, if there are ones who do, know that the chances of them being caught is not that great.
This 450 race series, will have a level playing field for sure, if we as riders do not cheat, and organizations enforce the rules they set forth. Then the deciding factor that determines the winner of each 450 race, it truly the rider! Now that guy that beat your butt all last year, decides to race a 450 along with you, you should be chomping at the bit to get the season started! Heck, you probably feel you are a better rider than he is anyway! What better way to prove that, by being on spec bikes!
Guys, remember this. The 450cc series will only start with WERA next year. I think we all have had the dream of making an AMA grid! We have a year to get these new bikes sorted out. A one year internship before getting to the big dance!
I am 42. My chances of making an AMA Superbike grid are as good as a snowballs chance of lasting a week in Africa! But do I at least have a legitimate chance of making an AMA grid in the 450cc class in 2009? I believe so!!!
To the 50 yr old guy that says he is still fast, I say to you sir, GO FOR IT! How cool would it be for you to grid up next to a 20yr old kid, look over at him, and say to yourself or him, IM gonna beat you like you were my own son!!! Then close your visor and crack up laughing! Funny, yes! Could it happen? Surely it can! Why? Because its up to him!
This class is going to give us, what we have always wanted in the first place...a level playing field! Thank you Gavin Trippe! Because of your vision, your dream, you are going to make many more dreams come true! :)
Great!
I will do this! It looks like a BLAST! I want 10 or them, just to line up next to each other and look at. Like lifesavers different colors!...LOL!
I can't wait till they have street legal versions. You can whip them around like mini bikes. I can already see all the trick stuff coming to the market. They will benefit from this.

this is the common sense thing to come around in a long time it needs to happenand happen now this year keep all motors stock pipes only and have a claim rule on the motor only that will keep the cheaters out of the grey area and keep most everyone on the same page racing is racing and you will always have some trying something to get the advantagebut this is the best thing to come around in a long time and with no factory involvement lets get some bikes on the grid that would put on a great show
